I am an artist who works primarily in clay, though I love to explore new mediums and techniques.
My story in art started when I turned thirty in 2010 and a semi-mid-life crisis (one of several) prompted me to make a change in my life. I had been trying to force myself into any kind of career that I could get, the results of which left me drained of energy and enthusiasm. I chose to pursue something that I found enjoyable. I chose art.
I went back to school and earned my Associate, Bachelor, and, most recently, Master of Fine Arts degrees with a concentration in ceramics.
Through my education I have learned that art is a struggle, but the good kind; it creates connections; it is life-affirming; and it changes people – both artist and art lover. I have found joy in the process of creating something beautiful and interesting out of nothing but an idea and some materials.
My current body of work consists of sculptural ceramic forms that reveal themselves as I create them. The finished piece is a surprise to me, both in its physical form and in the realization that my hands are capable of creating a wholly unique and personal object. I hope that those who view my work are similarly surprised and delighted.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me and my work. I’d love to hear from you.
